Sekhmet in Ancient Egypt was seen as a protector of the Pharoahs and guided them in warfare, her name means "She who is powerful" or "the one who loves Ma'at".  The Egyptian priests of Sekhmet were powerful spiritual healers, supported by her statues.  They believed she could heal any problem.  She is one of the most popular Egyptian deities and is represented with a lions-head and sun disc sat on a throne.  She is seen as a powerful creative and destructive force.
